What is TEOSYAL® RHA 1?
TEOSYAL® RHA 1 is a temporary dermal filler made of non animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, and its name stands for Resilient Hyaluronic Acid. The mix of cross-linked and and non-modified hyaluronic acid in TEOSYAL® RHA 1 helps it act like natural hyaluronic acid, moving and stretching with the face in areas of active movement for a more natural look. This hyaluronic acid injectable also contains Lidocaine, an anesthetic to reduce pain and discomfort during the injection.
Why do doctors use TEOSYAL® RHA 1?
Dermatologists and plastic surgeons use TEOSYAL® RHA 1 to correct the appearance of superficial wrinkles and fine lines in skin, on the face, neck, and neckline. This dermal filler is suited for mobile areas of the face, such as the cheeks, nasolabial folds, perioral area, forehead, and crow’s feet, where the ability to stretch would be an advantage. You can also use TEOSYAL® RHA 1 to fill circles under the eyes.
How TEOSYAL® RHA 1 works
Teoxane uses special technology to blend cross-linked hyaluronic acid with non-modified hyaluronic acid. The cross-linked hyaluronic acid lasts longer within the skin, helping to resist breaking down for longer than natural hyaluronic acid. The non-modified hyaluronic acid, meanwhile, gives TEOSYAL® RHA 1 properties closer to natural hyaluronic acid within the skin. This helps TEOSYAL® RHA 1 to stretch and adapt to facial movement even as it supports the skin and reduces the look of wrinkles. Since hyaluronic acid can absorb up to a thousand times its size in water, injecting this dermal filler helps fill and support the skin to reduce the look of wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid in TEOSYAL® RHA 1 will gradually break down to be absorbed into the skin, helping keep the skin hydrated.
When and how to use TEOSYAL® RHA 1
TEOSYAL® RHA 1 will likely last about six to nine months, although this will vary from patient to patient, so you should inject this filler about once or twice a year to maintain your patient’s smoother skin. Inject TEOSYAL® RHA 1 using the enclosed needles into the mid-dermis at the site needing correction. You can adjust the volume according to your patient’s needs, but generally you should not inject more than 3ml per session. Be careful not to over-inject TEOSYAL® RHA 1, and after the injection, gently massage the skin to ensure even distribution and a smooth look. For injecting TEOSYAL® RHA 1 beneath the eyes, you can use a needle to inject the hyaluronic acid in papules above the periosteum, slightly below the circle’s line, followed by massage; or, you can use a cannula for retro-tracing, injecting into the deep tissue followed by massage. Refer to your product leaflet for specific instructions. Only trained medical professionals should inject this or any other dermal filler.
TEOSYAL® RHA 1 side effects
Common TEOSYAL® RHA 1 side effects can include swelling, erythema, and discomfort at the injection site. These side effects usually resolve within a few days, and the presence of Lidocaine in TEOSYAL® RHA 1 can help reduce the pain and discomfort. Other side effects your patients could experience after a TEOSYAL® RHA 1 injection include hypersensitivity or anaphylactic shock, itching, abscess, haematoma, induration (skin hardness), nodules or granulomas, skin necrosis, discoloration, migration of the implant, or temporary loss of sensitivity at the injection site. These may not be all the possible TEOSYAL® RHA 1 side effects.
Precautions when using TEOSYAL® RHA 1
You should not use TEOSYAL® RHA 1 to treat patients who are allergic or sensitive to hyaluronic acid, Lidocaine, or any other ingredient in this dermal filler. You should not inject TEOSYAL® RHA 1 into patients who are pregnant, and you should not inject this or similar fillers into patients who are breastfeeding, since this product has not been tested in these situations. Your patients should not take high doses of vitamin E, aspirin, anti-inflammatories or anti-coagulants in the week before their injection, they should avoid wearing makeup for twelve hours after injection, and for the next week they should avoid extreme temperatures, such as a sauna or intense cold. TEOSYAL® RHA 1 is intended for single use only to ensure sterility.
Does TEOSYAL® RHA 1 require a skin test?
TEOSYAL® RHA 1 is made by bacterial fermentation from streptococci bacteria in a laboratory, and a patented technology reduces the protein and bacterial endotoxoin level for less hypersensitivity. Since the hyaluronic acid is non-animal in origin, you do not need to perform a skin test before treating your patients.
